When owners call us
The budget is a guess
Replacements arrive as surprises, and nobody can tell you what next year’s technology will cost.
Someone is asking hard questions
A cyber insurance renewal, a HIPAA risk analysis or the FTC Safeguards Rule wants answers you don’t have on paper.
A big change is coming
A server nearing end of support, a new office or a move to Microsoft 365 or Azure, and nobody has planned it end to end.
A contract is up for renewal
The phone, internet, copier or software agreement renews soon, and you can’t tell whether the price and terms are fair.
Four kinds of work
What our IT consulting covers
Most engagements fall into one of four areas. Each ends with something written that you keep, in language your leadership can follow.
What will IT cost us next year?
A technology roadmap and budget
We list every computer, server, network device, subscription and vendor, then note what ages out and when. You get a plan in priority order with estimated costs and timing, spread over years so no single year carries every replacement. For timing, we use the cycle we run for our own clients: PCs every 3 to 4 years, servers at 5 and firewalls at 3 to 5. How IT strategic planning works.
Would we pass an audit?
A compliance gap assessment
We check your setup against the rules you answer to: HIPAA, the FTC Safeguards Rule, an ethics rule, a grant or your cyber insurance questionnaire. The gaps we find most often are missing administrative safeguards, missing physical safeguards and technical safeguards set up wrong. You get each gap in writing, with why it matters and what the fix involves. Our compliance services.
Who runs the project?
Projects and migrations
We plan the project and run it: a server replacement, a new office, a move to Microsoft 365 or Azure, or a move off VMware. Most of our clients are moving from VMware to Hyper-V in some form. The plan is written down before anything moves. Cloud migration.
Is this a fair deal?
Vendor and contract review
Send us the quote or the renewal before you sign. We read the terms, compare what you would pay for against what you actually use and look for a better product or service. Then we bring you our recommendations. You decide.
IT consulting is billed by the hour. You can hire us for one question or one project. Each engagement starts with an engagement agreement, and no monthly agreement is required.
When something breaks
IT support by the hour
You don’t need a managed agreement for us to fix something. A technician works the problem remotely or comes to your office, under the same engagement agreement as our consulting, billed by the hour.
- A computer, printer or network problem that’s stopping work.
- Email, Microsoft 365 or sign-in trouble.
- A one-time setup, such as a new workstation, a new hire’s accounts or a small office move.
If the same problem keeps coming back, we’ll tell you what’s causing it. Call (225) 273-1206 or book a 20-minute call.

From our work
A project that ran 18 months after the storm
After Hurricane Ida, a nonprofit set up a disaster case management program and needed the technology behind it right away. We supported that program for 18 months: devices, systems, onboarding new staff, reporting and HR support.
- We write the plan down before work starts, so your staff and any future provider can follow it.
- The engineer who scopes your project has done the same work for our own clients.
- If you don’t need something, we tell you. Advice about what you can skip is part of the job.
Choosing a consultant
How to choose an IT consultant in Baton Rouge
Use these questions with us or with anyone else you talk to.
- What will you hand us at the end? Expect a written inventory, assessment or plan that you keep.
- Do you sell what you recommend? Ask how the consultant gets paid, and be careful when every answer ends with their preferred product.
- Who does the work? Find out whether the person on the call is the engineer who will do it.
- How do you bill? Get the billing model in writing before work starts.
- Can you carry out the plan too? Advice is easier to trust when the people giving it run the same systems every day.
How it works
How an IT consulting engagement works
Four steps, and the first one is a conversation.
01
Start with the risk conversation
Before we touch a computer, we sit down with you. We ask what you are trying to accomplish, how things work today and what keeps going wrong. You leave knowing where your gaps are.
02
Agree on the scope
We tell you what the question needs: who we talk to, what we look at and what you get at the end. The work is billed by the hour.
03
Do the work
We gather the inventory, review settings and contracts, and talk with the people who run your day-to-day. Then we write it up in plain language, with costs, trade-offs and the order to do things in.
04
You decide
We walk you through what we found. Take the plan to your own team, hire us for the project, or move to managed IT. The choice is yours.
Why Wahaya IT
Why organizations bring us their IT questions
- Engineer-led since 2003. You talk with engineers who run these systems every day for organizations of 10 to several hundred staff.
- Compliance is where we start. Our client onboarding review follows a 14-page checklist, and our healthcare clients get an annual HIPAA risk assessment with a written report.
- Track record across our clients. Zero ransomware events, zero malware outbreaks and no reportable data breaches.
- No product push. We recommend what fits, and we say so when the cheaper option is good enough.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How much does IT consulting cost?
We bill IT consulting by the hour. The total depends on the question: a contract review takes far less time than a full roadmap or a compliance gap assessment. We talk through the scope on a 20-minute call before any work starts.
Do we need a managed IT agreement to hire you?
No. IT consulting is open to any organization, under an engagement agreement for that piece of work. If you later want ongoing support, we also offer managed IT services and co-managed IT for organizations with their own IT staff.
What do we get at the end?
Something written that you keep: a roadmap with estimated costs and timing, a list of compliance gaps and what each fix involves, a project plan, or a contract review with our recommendation.
Do you work outside Baton Rouge?
Yes. We are based in Baton Rouge and support organizations across the country.
